MedTorque enhanced their manufacturing capabilities with investments in an Engis SPM8000 series bore honing machine and a Cincinnati M2 CNC centerless grinder for OD grinding.

The company is a contract manufacturer for orthopedic and spine OEMs for standard and custom instrumentation in the orthopedic, trauma, and surgical robotic markets.

The addition of this enhanced honing capability allows MedTorque to provide a highly precise process for internal bore features. This adds greater control over the process and improvements throughout production that facilitate lower lead times.

“The Engis is an eight spindle, multi-stroke CNC honing machine that provides us improved efficiency and accuracy while comfortably honing lengths up to 14.5 inches,” said Gustavo Gutierrez, Director of Operations for MedTorque’s Elmhurst, Illinois facility.

MedTorque’s centerless grinding capabilities now include CNC-controlled OD grinding. This provides the ability to refine the process accuracy within microns while ensuring repeatability.

“The CNC controlled centerless grinder is an upgrade to our manually controlled centerless grinding capability. We can now easily fine-tune the machine and provide a consistent result within microns,” Gutierrez said.

The additions to MedTorque’s capabilities strengthen its position as a market leader in contract manufacturing precision instrumentation, specifically those used in robotic and navigated surgery.
