Boston Centerless Approved by Zimmer Biomet for Ultrasonic Testing

Boston Centerless (BC) is pleased to announce that Zimmer Biomet has named BC as an Approved Supplier for Ultrasonic Testing (UT). This builds upon BC’s previous globally Approved Supplier status for Zimmer Biomet’s precision ground bar needs.

BC has invested in equipment that tests for internal defects as well as surface defects, alloy verification and laser marking of bar with customer‐provided identifiers. Its Material Validation Center is a high‐speed, automated line with auto sort for defective vs. non‐defective bars. The MVC allows BC to dramatically reduce lead time (from weeks to days) based on creating a one‐stop shop, eliminating transportation costs and queue times inherent in moving material to multiple locations.

The capabilities for BC’s UT are described below:

• Size Range: Round bar from approximately .180” diameter to a maximum of 1.000+0” diameter
• AMS‐STD‐2154 Class A, Class AA UT test standards
• Detects internal defects to within approximately 1mm of the surface
• Automated re‐direct of rejected bars to a separate collection bed
