In early April, a call went out to innovators in the global orthopedic community to submit product, software and service ideas to meet needs of orthopedic patients in this COVID-19 environment by providing them with pain- and function-alleviating support.
To allow more time for submissions, leaders of the initiative have extended the deadline from April 30 to May 10. Winning proposals will be announced within May.
OrthoChallenge panel member Lew Schon M.D., FACS said, “Whether we like it or not, we live in a post-COVID world that is forever changed. As history reveals, when mankind is challenged, the enduring fortitude of the human spirit is activated, and collaborative ingenuity ultimately prevails. In the end, although we mourn devastating losses and irreversible destruction, we will end up with co-created solutions, techniques and technologies that will ultimately propel us forward. I am honored to help facilitate this process with this dedicated team.”
The 10 most beneficial and practical submissions will be chosen by a team of surgeons, many of them past society presidents, and engineers and presented to FDA and other government leaders to request “fast-track” support.
Winning innovators will receive expert feedback on their submission, regulatory advice on what is needed to receive market clearance or approval, meetings with accelerators to speed their product to market and airtime on Venture Capital TV.
Ideas may be submitted digitally at ForSuchaTimeasThisOrtho.com.
