Thinking Robot Studios Expanding to the U.S.

Thinking Robot facility

Nova Scotia-based Thinking Robot Studios (TRS) plans to spend $84 million to construct a new 75,000-square-foot manufacturing and imaging facility, relocating its operations to Buffalo, New York. There, it will use 3D printing technology to design and produce customized orthopedic implants and systems to reconstruct bones and joints, like hips and knees.

The net-zero energy facility, powered by solar, battery and hydrogen systems, could support 270 jobs over the next five years.

The facility will offer concept and design through manufacturing, packaging, sterilization and delivery in one facility. TRS also wants to expand into advanced surgical tools and kits.

TRS plans to initially employ a staff of 88, adding more employees as the plant matures. Buffalo operations are slated to begin in the second half of 2020.
