Bactiguard to License Infection Prevention Coating to Zimmer Biomet

Bactiguard entered into an exclusive, global license agreement with Zimmer Biomet to apply infection preventive coating to the company’s orthopedic trauma implants. An upfront license fee of $3.0MM will be followed by additional contingent payments of $2MM, based on U.S. regulatory clearance and royalties on net sales.

Trauma implants with Bactiguard’s infection preventive technology were approved under the CE Mark in 2018 and will be used as a reference in the regulatory process.

Bactiguard Infection Protection is based on a very thin noble metal alloy coating comprising gold, silver and palladium that is attached to medical devices. When in contact with fluids, the noble metals together create a galvanic effect that reduces microbial adhesion, decreasing the risk for biofilm formation that leads to infections.

In 2015, Bactiguard entered into a license agreement for coated orthopedic trauma implants with Vigilenz Medical Devices, covering the ASEAN region. The implants were CE Marked in 2018 and approved for sales in Malaysia, where clinical evaluations are ongoing.
