Fusion Robotics closed a financing round for an undisclosed sum. Proceeds will be used to prepare the company’s spinal robotics platform for regulatory clearance and future commercialization.

Lead investors were Alex Lukianov of Lukpartners, LLC and Kevin Foley, M.D.

Fusion’s platform combines robotics and localization technologies using 3D and 2D imaging techniques along with standard navigation methods. It has a small footprint and is “simple, cost-effective and scalable,” said Brad Clayton, CEO. It integrates technologies from partners, Interventional Systems in Wattens, Austria and U.S.-based Practical Navigation, LLC.

The company seeks to serve both hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers, addressing constraints related to practicality and cost.

Mr. Lukianov, former CEO of NuVasive, will serve as Chairman of the Board for Fusion Robotics, while Dr. Foley will serve as Chief Medical Officer. Mr. Clayton’s professional experience includes various leadership roles at Medtronic, including Robotics, Midas Rex, Navigation, Spine & Biologics and Sofamor Danek.
