SINTX and EU Consortium Collaborate on Silicon Nitride Development

SINTX Technologies entered into a partnership with a multi-center European industry-academic group to train future scientists and promote the development of silicon nitride biomedical implants. As partner and senior advisor to the program, SINTX will execute technical reviews and host graduate student training.

The European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Program has funded a four-year grant targeting the development of spinal implants. Led by Professor Cecilia Persson at Uppsala University, the consortium has three university participants (Uppsala University, ETH Zürich and University of Leeds); industrial partners (IHI Ionbond, CeramTec, Key Engineering Solutions, SINTX Technologies and OssDsign) and the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust as clinical collaborators. The program will promote 15 Ph.D. scientists through a comprehensive multi-center research and training effort.

SINTX develops and commercializes silicon nitride for biomedical applications, such as spine and dental implants. The company presently manufactures silicon nitride spinal implants for CTL-Amedica.
