Viant to Close Monticello, Iowa Facility

Viant (formerly MedPlast), a global services provider to the medical device industry, is closing its 85,000-square-foot facility in Monticello, Iowa; 70 jobs will be lost.

The closure comes three months after MedPlast completed the purchase of Integer’s Advanced Surgical and Orthopedics (ASO) product lines for US $600MM in cash and rebranded itself as Viant.

According to a notice sent by Viant to the Iowa Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification website, which requires employers to publicly disclose layoff numbers, the job losses will occur by November 16. According to The (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) Gazette, Viant’s Monticello plant consists of automation cells and 41 injection presses ranging from 55 to 880 tons of clamping force and capabilities for over-, insert- and high-temperature molding.

A Viant spokeswoman said the company would issue a statement later this week.

Viant also announced in July that it was relocating corporate headquarters from Tempe, Arizona, to Foxborough, Massachusetts, to be in a major medical device hub.
