Evonik to Transform Project House into Collaborative R&D Center

Evonik, a supplier of polymers (including bioresorbable RESOMER® and high-performance PEEK VESTAKEEP®) for medical devices, will relaunch its Birmingham, Alabama Project House as a permanent R&D Competence Center as of April 1.

Since 2014, more than 20 scientists have been working on the enhancement of existing materials and application technologies at the Birmingham Project House. In addition to technologies such as precision extrusion and injection molding, the project house utilizes advanced processing technologies such as additive manufacturing (AM) and electrospinning to rapidly evaluate material properties and create prototypes.

Evonik will integrate the activities of the Project House, which had been part of its Creavis strategic innovation unit, into a competence center operated by its Health Care Business Line.

The new R&D Competence Center will allow Evonik to manufacture and test prototypes from new materials — not just in extrusion and injection molding processes, but also in AM.
