Tegra Medical Acquired by SFS Group

Tegra Medical, a medical device contract manufacturer, is to be acquired by SFS Group, a provider of customized precision-formed components and mechanical fastening systems in Switzerland.

SFS had sought a manufacturer to add focused medical device expertise to its offerings, and brings increased capabilities such as micro molding and cold forming to Tegra Medical, which will be integrated into SFS’ Engineered Components business segment.

Tegra Medical was formed by Riverside Partners in 2007 through acquisitions of New England Precision Grinding, Accu-Met Laser and American Medical Instruments, with subsequent acquisitions of CTW and a Costa Rica manufacturing operation in 2010.

Tegra Medical has 200,000 square feet of manufacturing space in four locations in the U.S. and Costa Rica, and is ISO 13485:2003 and FDA registered and QSR compliant. Its offerings address all orthopaedic market segments (e.g. joint reconstruction, extremities, spine, trauma, arthroscopy, etc.).

As an SFS company, Tegra will continue operations under its own brand at headquarters in Massachusetts. Senior management will remain, including President & CEO J. Mark King, CFO Craig Campbell, VP Sales and Marketing Lee Crowe and VP GENESIS Tech Center Mike Treleaven.

Robert W. Baird and Stifel, Nicolaus served as Tegra Medical’s financial advisors for the transaction.

SFS Group is a global player with manufacturing sites and distribution at more than 70 locations in 25 countries. The company posted 2015 revenue of CHF 1.4BB (~US $1.4BB) with a workforce of 8,300 employees.
