Orthopaedic Innovation Centre: New White Paper on Testing, Validation of a Patient-Specific, Surface-Guided TKR

The Orthopaedic Innovation Centre (OIC), a non-profit entity for medical device testing and R&D, published a new white paper detailing the benefits of a proprietary articulation system for a total knee replacement (TKR). The goal of the patient-specific, surface-guided TKR is increased patient satisfaction.

The white paper describes the development of the technology, as well as results of validation tests performed on a surface-guided knee prototype manufactured by Precision ADM. The surface-guided design referenced in the paper has been granted patents in Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, the U.K., the U.S., Italy, Sweden and Switzerland.

OIC seeks an OEM partner to license the technology and continue development.

“It is believed that the tested customized surface-guided implant is a major step toward the development of novel total knee replacement with the aim of achieving a higher range of flexion angles,” said Shabnam Pejhan, Ph.D. Co-Developer. “This could ultimately improve the quality of life of the patients with total knee replacement, particularly for those who have an active lifestyle.”
