Empirical—a testing, consulting and manufacturing group of companies—is celebrating 20 years of helping device companies bring products and innovation to the orthopaedic market. The company has grown from a single employee testing medical devices in 1998 to a full-service family of companies that employs 33 team members, supporting 38 test frames and 10 CNC machines.
Ten years after founding Empirical Testing Corp., Dawn and Chris Lissy launched Empirical Machine to meet the prototyping and precision manufacturing needs of their clients. Five years after that, Empirical Consulting was formed to address regulatory and quality concerns for an ever-growing client base of medical device developers.
Capabilities have broadened from testing to include regulatory expertise, consulting and a wide array of manufacturing processes, including prototyping, Swiss machining, multi-axis milling, grinding, finishing and inspection. Empirical is also a medical-grade manufacturer of materials including Ti 6Al4V, stainless steel, UHMPE and PEEK.
Empirical Machine recently gained registration as a contract manufacturer in FDA’s Registration and Device Listing Database.
