Elos Medtech Expands Onyx Medical in U.S.

Elos Medtech is expanding Onyx Medical’s footprint in Memphis, Tennessee by adding 27,000 square feet of manufacturing space and investing in new equipment. This comes in direct response to increased demand from orthopaedic device company customers, and effectively doubles production areas, according to the company.

Onyx Medical was acquired by Elos Medtech in 2015 to extend its global presence and further specialize within orthopaedics. More than two years have passed since the announcement, and Onyx Medical has had a considerable impact on the Swedish company’s profit and its ability to penetrate the orthopaedic market, specifically in trauma, extremities and spine.

Recently, the company has seen increased demand for drills, pins, wires and screws in both traditional trauma and robotically enabled surgery, prompting an expansion of the factory in Memphis.

“Our global focus on the orthopedic market in recent years has given us new opportunities to meet our customers’ increased needs for collaboration, specialized skills and manufacturing capabilities,” said Jodie Gilmore, Global Business Director, Orthopedics and Managing Director, Onyx Medical. “We are now expanding the facility and investing in new equipment to increase our capacity and thus meet our customers’ demand.”
