Lucideon Bolsters Team to Develop New Antibacterial Materials

Lucideon has welcomed five researchers from the Institute of Biomaterials, Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen in Nuremburg, Germany. The students will research a range of materials with intrinsic antibacterial properties as a part of the HyMedPoly project.

Lucideon is one of nine companies, clinics and universities taking part in the project to develop drug-free antibacterial hybrid biopolymers for medical applications. The areas of research will include wound care and medical device implants. HyMedPoly is a four-year project and has received funding from the EU’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement. Infection is a frequently voiced challenge in orthopaedics, and a variety of initiatives are in development to mitigate it.
