Oberg Partners with University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering

Oberg Industries and the University of Pittsburgh’s Swanson School of Engineering have partnered to combine Oberg’s expertise in manufacturing complex tooling and precision machined/stamped metal components with Pitt’s ANSYS Additive Manufacturing Research Laboratory (AMRL).

Over two years, Oberg employees will remain onsite at Swanson to manage technical initiatives at the ANSYS AMRL, which is an additive manufacturing lab equipped to print components for nearly every industry using metals, alloys, polymers, etc.

Oberg will promote the partnership to its customer partners to broaden corporate activity at Pitt, while maintaining priority industrial access for its own education, training, prototyping, testing, design and production uses.

Benefits to both entities include consistent facility management and technical expertise provided by Oberg to the lab, as well as the pursuit of student recruitment, employment and scholarship opportunities.

This collaboration was initiated with funding from the U.S. Federal government via America Makes (the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute). Pitt’s research includes development and testing of tools to optimize design and construction of manufactured parts to improve strength and sustainability of production and to reduce weight and overall costs.
